Greetings students and parents,
Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year at Simonds and U-Connect! I’m very excited to be your Principal and I’m looking forward to an excellent year filled with learning and wonderful memories.
Our Mission:
The mission of the Langley School District is “to inspire all learners to reach their full potential and create a positive legacy for the future”. As a school we have focused on a simple social-emotional motto for our students and staff to aid in this mission. Simply put, it is to “Be Kind”. Through kindness, we at Simonds Elementary and U-Connect aim to create a safe and caring environment that helps students grow and develop to reach their personal best. We believe school should be a fun place with a serious purpose. Through a wide array of curricular and and extra-curricular activities, it’s our desire that every student feels a sense of belonging and is engaged in their education.
School Goals:
At both Simonds and U-Connect, we have an Action Plan that is focused on the following Inquiry Questions:
Simonds and U-Connect (K-7):
- Will adopting a balanced approach to literacy improve the reading and writing results?
U-Connect (8-12):
- Will modifying our Moodle courses and having teachers partake in specific professional development activities to improve online teacher practices increase student engagement?
- Does increasing student engagement increase our course completion rates?
Learning is not something that happens easily by itself, but is best approached as a team working together. This is part of another of our historical values of “doing whatever it takes for every student to succeed”. Our philosophy at Simonds and U-Connect is to provide hope and opportunity for all learners.
I hope you take a moment to review our website. I’m a firm believer in open communication, so if you ever have a question please don’t hesitate to contact me. We hope you have a fantastic year at Simonds and U-Connect!
Regards,
Paul Trattle, proud Principal of Simonds and U-Connect
